18th Annual Ópera Latinoamérica Conference – Theatres: Audiences and Ideas for the Future

Theatres: Audiences and Ideas for the Future will be the central theme of the 18th Annual Ópera Latinoamérica (OLA) Conference, which will take place from 17th to 20th June at the Palau de Les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia, Spain. The conference will revolve around the major transformations that 21st-century society is facing: environmental sustainability and how our organisations adopt these initiatives, our audiences, and how the artistic programming of our venues has evolved.
From 17th to 20th June, theatres and organisations associated with Ópera Latinoamérica (OLA), along with invited guests and organisations from the creative industries across Ibero-America, will gather at the Palau de Les Arts in Valencia, Spain, to discuss and reflect on the present and future of our institutions at the 18th Annual Ópera Latinoamérica Conference, titled Theatres: Audiences and Ideas for the Future.
The rapid pace of socio-economic, artistic, and technological changes invites us to reflect on how to address these constant advancements and shifts in ideas, tools, and opportunities so that the work in theatres, festivals, and companies remains relevant to the communities and audiences we serve.

This year, the focus will be on audiences, guiding key questions such as: Who are we programming for? What are we programming? How do we ensure these decisions are coherent, sustainable, and viable? How do we communicate with our audiences today? And finally, what innovative models can serve as a reference for the future of the Ibero-American creative sector?
Sustainability will remain a central topic of discussion. In this edition, we will continue sharing perspectives with public-private organisations and introduce the environmental factor into the conversation through the The Theatre Green Book. This practical document will serve as the starting point for a discussion on the challenges sustainability poses for theatres and organisations at the organisational, structural, and artistic levels.

As every year, more than 45 members of the Ópera Latinoamérica network—represented by directors, managers, artists, agents, and specialists from Ibero-American organisations—along with experts from the creative industries, will gather for three days to work on various guidelines for managing theatres, festivals, and companies, and, in particular, to reflect on how the arts can contribute to sustainable development.
The OLA 2025 Annual Conference programme will feature a rich agenda of activities, including the association’s annual meeting, conferences, business networking sessions, visits to cultural venues, and participation in performances.
