Celebrating the centenary of the death of Enrico Caruso, and the birth of Giuseppe di Stefano, Franco Corelli and Mario Lanza, a series of activities will be presented in his honor until June 26.

The Teatro del Bicentenario Roberto Plasencia Saldaña, from the Guanajuato Cultural Forum, presents the “Cycle in homage to four opera titans: Enrico Caruso, Giuseppe di Stefano, Franco Corelli and Mario Lanza”, which will be held until June 26 .

This Thursday, June 17, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Friday June 18, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the seminar “The 4 Titans of Opera” will be held, with two sessions face-to-face, in which the musical and operatic critic Gerardo Kleinburg will delve into their lives and artistic career.

On Friday, June 25 at 8:00 p.m., the recital Tribute to Caruso is presented, with the tenor José Manuel Chu, accompanied by the pianist Sergio Vázquez, the program is made up of arias that remain in the memory and history of the repertoire lyrical thanks to the interpretation of the famous Neapolitan tenor.

To close on Saturday, June 26, the theatrical work “El accompanamiento”, by Carlos Gorostiza, will be presented, with two performances, the first at 5:00 p.m. and the second at 8:00 p.m., in an adaptation by Jorge Cervantes , as a tribute to Giuseppe di Stefano.

Framed within the so-called New Argentine Realism, this adaptation shows the dramatic situation experienced by a man about to retire, who abandons what until then has constituted his life to fulfill his dream: to become an opera singer and emulate Pippo, the great tenor Giuseppe di Stefano, his idol. In a desperate effort to shape his chimeras, he is able to dream and shed any bondage in preparation for the impossible triumph.

The “Cycle in tribute to four opera titans: Enrico Caruso, Giuseppe di Stefano, Franco Corelli and Mario Lanza”, invites the public to remember and re-enjoy the most talented tenors of all time, possessors of a musicality and Unsurpassed vocal virtuosity, which leads them to persist in the memory of operatic annals around the world.
