“Fuego”, by Antonio Gades, will open the Teatro Real dance season

The Antonio Gades Company replaces the Munich Ballet, which will not be able to travel to Spain due to health restrictions imposed by the German Government.

With the premiere of Fuego, the Teatro Real completes Gades’s choreographic production of which it has already presented and recorded on DVD: Bodas de Sangre, Carmen, Fuenteovejuna and Suite Flamenca, available on the audiovisual platform My Opera Player.

Four performances will be offered, on October 22, 23 and 24, the latter in double session at 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

The music will be performed by the Titular Orchestra of the Teatro Real under the direction of Miquel Ortega.

The Teatro Real and the Antonio Gades Foundation want to pay tribute, with these performances, to the recently deceased Gerardo Vera, responsible for the stage space and costumes for this production.

Premiered at the Châtelet Theater in Paris in 1989, Fuego is the exponent of the purest Gades label: “go back to tradition if you want to evolve.” A work of transition between the already iconic montages by Carmen and Fuenteovejuna, which has many of the resources created by the artist that have never been repeated and which make the work maintain its freshness.
