Municipal Theater of Santiago presents a new Municipal Delivery
In this fifth stage -presented by AES Gener- four shows will be broadcast: The ballet “Carmen”, the opera “El Cristo de Elqui” or the ballet “La Casa de los Espíritus” (depending on the result of the public vote), the concert “Loving Bach” and the opera “Alzira” by G. Verdi. Each premiere will be available at www.municipal.cl for two weeks.
The fifth season of the Municipal Delivery digital platform began on Friday, September 4, at 8:00 p.m. with the transmission of the ballet Carmen (2013) starring Andreza Randisek (Carmen) and Luis Ortigoza (Don José), created by Marcia Haydée especially for the Santiago Ballet, based on the homonymous novel by Prosper Merimée with music by G. Bizet. The expressiveness of the dance and the artistic potential of the dancers of the company, star with emotion in a story that remains valid not only because the arts continue to make, from different genres, a rereading of the work, but because women today are a simile of its mythical protagonist, incarnation of passion, tenacity and freedom.
More than 3,500 people joined yesterday to the transmission of “Carmen”, a ballet that will continue to be available to the public for two weeks at www.municipal.cl.
Subsequently, the Teatro Municipal de Santiago will give the public the option to choose the play that will be broadcast on Friday, September 18, at 8:00 p.m., with a Municipal Delivery: Chilean Special, which will be scheduled according to the result of the vote of the public. The two works that can be voted on will be by national creators: the opera “El Cristo de Elqui” by the national composer Miguel Farías, with a libretto by Alberto Mayol, who was based on the novels El arte de la resurrección and La Reina Isabel sang rancheras by Hernán Rivera Letelier; and the ballet “La Casa de los Espíritus” with music by the national composer and director José Luis Domínguez and the choreography by Eduardo Yedro, based on the homonymous novel by the national writer Isabel Allende.
On Friday, October 2, at 8:00 p.m., the concert “Loving Bach” will be broadcast, a tribute to the German composer Johann Sebastian Bach on the 335th anniversary of his birth. The concert will be performed by the Philharmonic Ensemble and will address a repertoire that includes works by J.S. Bach, F. Mendelssohn, C. Franck, and G. Mahler.
Johann Sebastian Bach is considered one of the most influential composers of all time, his creations would not have transcended to this day if, eighty years after his death, Mendelssohn had not rescued and performed his Passions and Cantatas. Since then, admiration for Bach has only grown among music lovers around the world.
To end this fifth season, the Municipal de Santiago – thanks to the collaboration that has been generated between the theaters of the OLA Network – will premiere on Friday, October 16, at 8:00 p.m., the opera Alzira by G. Verdi, with a libretto by Salvatore Cammarano, inspired by the famous Voltaire novel “Alzira and the Americans”. The play, set in Lima and other Peruvian cities during the second half of the 16th century, is led by the Argentine soprano Jaquelina Livieri (Alzira), the Peruvian tenor Juan Antonio de Dompablo (Zamoro) and the baritone Jorge Tello (Guzmán), accompanied by outstanding soloists of the National Choir of Peru and the National Symphony Orchestra, under the musical direction of Oliver Díaz and the stage direction of Jean Pierre Gamarra.
This production presented by the Ministry of Culture of Peru and the Gran Teatro Nacional, was recognized with the Opera XXI award in the category “Best New Latin American Production” by the Association of Theaters, Festivals and Stable Seasons of Opera of Spain.
