Ariadna en Naxos sube al escenario del Teatro Colón junto a Marcelo Lombardero y Alejo Pérez

This production of the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires has the stage direction of Marcelo Lombardero and the musical direction of the guest director Alejo Pérez. The soprano Carla Filipcic Holm and the tenor Gustavo López Manzitti lead the cast that will be on the scene of this Strauss classic. 

Next Friday, July 26 at 8:00 p.m., the 2019 lyric season of the Teatro Colón continues with Ariadne auf Naxos by Richard Strauss and libretto by Hugo von Hofmannsthal. This production of the Teatro Colón will feature the stage direction of Marcelo Lombardero, the musical direction of Alejo Pérez at the head of the Stable Orchestra of the Teatro Colón, the costume design of Luciana Gutman and the stage design of Diego Siliano.

The four scheduled functions will be carried out on Friday, July 26 and Wednesday, July 31 at 8:00 p.m. and Friday, August 2 at 8:00 p.m. and the last function will be held on Sunday, August 4 at 5:00 p.m. 00 hours.

The story of Ariadne auf Naxos takes place during a great party offered by a rich patron of the city of Vienna, and in which two very different shows are offered in which the elements of tragic opera and comic opera are confronted and combined . Mythological characters and the old commedia dell´arte intersect their destinies in this overflowing piece of literary and musical inspiration.

Argentine soprano Carla Filipcic Holm will play the roles of Ariadne and Prima Donna while Gustavo López Manzitti will star in the roles of Bacchus and Tenor.

About Alejo Pérez, Orchestra Director

Born in Buenos Aires, after training as a pianist and getting a diploma with gold medals at the university, he perfected his management studies in Germany with Peter Eötvös, Helmuth Rilling and Sir Colin Davis. He collaborated closely with Michael Gielen, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Peter Eötvös and Christoph von Dohnányi.

He was musical director of the Teatro Argentino de La Plata (Tristan und Isolde, Don Carlos, La damnation de Faust, Rheingold, Nabucco, Lady Macbeth de Mzensk as well as Missa Solemnis, Deutsches Requiem, Alexander Nevsky, Requiem de Verdi, Daphnis et Chloé, 8th de Mahler) for four seasons (2019- 2012).

He directed at the Opéra de Paris, Opéra Comique, Opera de Frankfurt, Opera National de Lyon, Theater all’Opera di Roma, Opera Köln, National Theater of Geneva, Royal Theater of the Monnaie Brussels, Opera National de Lithuania, Opera Nacional de Polonia , Concertgebouw and Muziekgebouw from Amsterdam, Royal Opera in Copenhagen, Teatro di San Carlos in Naples.

He composed theopera Tenebræ commissioned by the Centro de Experimentación del Teatro Colón and directed its premiere in 1999.
He regularly directs in his country and Latin America with a very wide repertoire, also staying active in the field of both current music. In the Teatro Real of Madrid has offered  Rienzi in concert version, Ainadamar, Don Giovanni, Die Eroberung von Mexico, Death in Venice and numerous concerts with the Madrid Symphony Orchestra (Placido Domingo, Eva Maria Westbroek, Ian Bostridge).

About Marcelo Lombardero, Stage Director

Linked to opera since his childhood, first as a member of the Children’s Choir and the Stable Choir of the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires and, later, as a recognized baritone in theaters of America and Europe. After retiring as a singer in 2005 to assume the artistic direction of the Colon – where he also created and directed the Chamber Opera – he began his career as a stage director at the Experimentation Center of that theater, especially standing out in the repertoire of the twentieth century . He has also collaborated with other important theaters in his country, such as the Teatro Argentino de La Plata, where he was artistic director.

He worked in theaters in France, Spain, Germany, Greece, Czech Republic, Poland, Latvia, USA, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, as well as other musical centers in Argentina such as the theaters Argentino de La Plata, Libertador de Córdoba, Nacional Cervantes, Teatro San Martín and Usina del Arte in the city of Buenos Aires and for the company Buenos Aires Lírica, in which he made the staging of: Otello de Verdi and Rossini, The turn of the screw de Britten, The brief life of De Falla, Tristán und Isolde, María de Buenos Aires de Piazzolla, Barbazul Castle, Tosca, Suor Angelica, Manon Lescaut, Macbeth, Satirycon, La clemenza di Tito, Marriage of Figaro; The Rake´s Progress, Lady Macbeth de Mstensk, Ariadne auf Naxos, Carmen, Das Rheingold, Don Giovanni, Rusalka, Die Zauberflaute, Diary of a disappeared person, Le pouvre matelot and Aliados, of S. He received the awards of the Argentine Musical Criticism 2004; Association of Critics of Shows 1997, 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015, Theaters of the World 2003; APES Association of Entertainment Journalists of Chile 2006, 2007, 2009; Clarín 2000, Konex-Diploma of Merit 2009, and the María Guerrero Prize was awarded by the Association Friends of the National Theater Cervantes. The production of Lady Macbeth of Mstensk that she presented at the Teatr Wielki in Poznan was awarded as the best opera production in the 2011-2012 season of Poland. In 2013 his production of Carmen presented at the Palacio de Bellas Artes of Mexico, received the Lunas award from the Auditorium of Mexico and his putting of Billy Budd de Britten in Santiago de Chile was distinguished by the Circle of Art Critics of Chile.
