Members of Ópera XXI present their lyrical season | Special issue of the magazine “Ópera Actual”
In a special supplement of the magazine Ópera Actual, the theatres, festivals and seasons that are part of Ópera XXI present their opera programming. “The course, designed with artistic ambition, takes into account the notable recovery of audience as a result of the public’s interest in live opera shows, and includes only a few isolated titles of those that were pending and postponed due to the pandemic, such as Katharina Wagner’s Lohengrin at the Liceu in Barcelona,” says Fernando Sans, director of Ópera Actual, about the Spanish 2024-2025 Season.
The magazine Ópera Actual published a special edition in September with the Spanish opera programming for the 2024-2025 season, which includes the calendar of operas, zarzuelas and lyrical concerts to be held in the European country. The supplement highlights the commitment to new repertoires, as 16 contemporary titles will be offered. On the other hand, he emphasizes that they continue to support Spanish artists and professionals, whether to play leading or supporting roles, or to direct music or stage. As for lyrical performances in concert, they take into account the hiring and support of groups created by musicians and directors from the Iberian country.
The leaders of 20 Spanish organizations that are part of the Opera XXI association, many of which are also members of OLA – Teatro Real in Madrid, Auditorio de Tenerife – Opera de Tenerife, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Teatro de la Zarzuela, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, Teatre Principal in Palma and Teatro de la Maestranza – present their artistic proposals for the season that has just begun. «In a world that continually poses new challenges, in such a polarized society, our seasons want to be windows that show you new perspectives, poetic journeys to the past and the future to reflect on what we have lived, on what we think we will live, but also to feel in this present and get excited in community (there is nothing more democratic than sharing a seat with a stranger and feeling or vibrating together)», highlights in her column Isamay Benavente, president of Opera XXI.
The edition also includes the impressions of Fernando Sans, director of Opera Actual, and other signed articles of interest. «This new season presents a very complete and varied lyrical offer throughout Spain, designed for an audience that continues to demonstrate, year after year, that it is eager to discover and enjoy the Spanish lyrical repertoire, not only the international one, despite rising prices that should be stabilizing, especially in the main opera houses of the country», mentions Fernando Sans, director of Opera Actual.
