Abstract: With the mystique of endorsing the place that western Mexico has within the artistic sphere in the world, the Santander Conjunto de Artes Escénicas of the University of Guadalajara was created, a venue registered in the University Cultural Center projected by the highest house of studies of Jalisco, which includes the Telmex Auditorium, the Juan José Arreola Public Library, the Plaza Bicentenario that includes the Ágora Jenkins, and the Museum of Environmental Sciences, a venue that will be completed in 2020. Santander Performing Arts Complex, with an area of 52 thousand square meters, it has a design and infrastructure that promotes a unique privacy, where the public and the artists are absolute accomplices. Santander Conjunto de Artes Escénicas is undoubtedly one of the most important Cultural Centers in Latin America, taking its place alongside the great art centers of this continent, Europe and Asia.
The main room of the Conjunto bears the name of the first artist who decorated it: Plácido Domingo. Said room has a capacity for 1,700 spectators, this room accommodates orchestral music, opera, classical dance and large-format theater shows. Room 2 has a capacity for 930 people, where closeness is fostered for the quality of communication that many shows require, which is why this space is oriented towards theatre, contemporary dance and chamber music. A third room for 430 attendees covers the needs of local, national and foreign experimental production, since it is primarily aimed at the theater, and on its variable stage all kinds of artistic and academic expressions can be represented. A more experimental space is Room 4, with 200 seats, ideal for small-format theater that highlights the proximity of the public to the actor. Perfect for monologues, clowns, cabaret, puppets and stand up. The Café-Concert with capacity for 160 diners where jazz cycles and design concerts can be enjoyed from their essence will shortly complete the offer of the Ensemble, as well as a large rehearsal room. A modern Cinematheque with five rooms equipped with the latest technology to show the finest and most avant-garde of the world’s seventh art.
