This unpublished production has the musical direction of the North American director Ira Levin and the stage direction of Alexandre Del Farra. The show includes the Violin Concerto, by the German composer, with Cláudio Cruz as soloist. In total, there will be 8 performances until November 14.

In November, Theatro São Pedro, an institution of the São Paulo State Government and the State Secretariat for Culture and Creative Economy, managed by the social organization Santa Marcelina Cultura, premieres the opera The Seven Deadly Sins, the latest collaboration between the composer Kurt Weill (1900-1950) and the playwright Bertolt Brecht (1898-1956).

With stage direction by Alexandre Dal Farra, the production will be musically directed by Ira Levin, who will be in command of the São Pedro Theater Orchestra, scenography by Fernando Pessetti, lighting by Wagner Antônio and costumes by João Marcos de Almeida and Renato Paiutto.

The role of Anna I is in charge of the singer Denise de Freitas and Anna II is played by the actress Gilda Nomacce. Anderson Barbosa (mother), Paulo Mandarino (father), Daniel Umbelino and Rafael Siano (brothers) complete the cast.

The Seven Deadly Sins (Die Sieben Todsünden) premiered at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées, in Paris, in 1933, with choreography by the legendary dancer George Balanchine. Caspar Neher designed the sets and costumes and Maurice Abravanel conducted the orchestra. It was then performed in London at the Savoy Theater (1933), with the same cast and choreographer, under the title Anna-Anna. The opera was performed in Germany for the first time in 1960 in Frankfurt.

The Seven Deadly Sins tells the story of a family in Louisiana who decides to send their daughter Anna to the big cities of the USA, to work and earn enough money to build a house for the family (played by a male quartet, in the one that the bass represents the Mother). Anna is made up of two people: Anna I (singer) and Anna II (actress or dancer). The opera consists of a prologue and an epilogue and seven scenes in which each scene is dedicated to a cardinal sin.

“The two sisters learn to hold back, but not to be better people, but to be able to sell themselves better. It is also an opera about entrepreneurship. On this type of structure of the moral discourse that consists of internalizing the difficulties, as if the problem were always us and not the structure in which we are inserted ”, highlights Alexandre Dal Farra.

Conceived as a sung ballet, The Seven Deadly Sins is a work by Kurt Weill in which the various types of dance and the rhythms associated with them predominate. Rhythm plays an important role in underlining the action and feelings of the protagonists. In the first scene, Sloth, the composer performs a parody of choral music. In the second, Pride, he evokes a waltz; in the third, Rage is an example of fox-trot, in the seventh, Envy is a march towards the Epilogue.

Before the opera, the Violin Concerto Op.12, composed by Kurt Weill in 1924, will be presented, with the conductor and violinist Cláudio Cruz as soloist.

“I will play this rarely scheduled job for the first time. Despite being a complex work and initially difficult to read, studying is becoming an absolutely enjoyable activity. I have high expectations, ”says Cláudio Cruz.

With the audiovisual direction of Giuliano Saade, the program will be recorded and subsequently broadcast on Theatro São Pedro’s YouTube channel.
