Through its YouTube channel, the space awarded the winners of its 1st Dance Contest, to which participants from the north, center and south of Chile applied.

During June, the Teatro Regional Lucho Gatica announced the winners of its 1st Dance Contest. The contest opened its registrations on April 19, receiving applications until June 5, from participants from the north, center and south of Chile. A great success for this first version, which sought to encourage the processes of creation and practice of this discipline in the context of the pandemic, a situation that has greatly affected national and international culture.

Those interested had to send a video where they performed classical, neoclassical and / or contemporary technical ballet pieces, with prizes of $ 1 million for first place in the National Interpreter, National and Regional Choreography categories. It also sought to award $ 500 thousand for an Honorable Mention per section.

From the Corporation of Culture and the Arts of the Municipality of Rancagua, organizer of the contest through the Theater, they emphasized that the contest was a great incentive for those who dedicate themselves to this discipline. The above, since the national contingency has withdrawn people in their homes, affecting the performing arts by not being able to perform in front of the public, also impacting their income. Therefore, this initiative serves as an incentive during the complicated context.

The jurors were Jaime Pinto, choreographer and teacher; Luz Lorca, Deputy Director of the Santiago Ballet; and Mathieu Guilhamon, Artistic Director of the Chilean National Ballet. Regarding the winners of the contest, the latter claimed to be happy with the high technical and artistic level of the applicants and choreographers. “The vast majority are very young, which gives a very good sign about the future of the new generations of national dancers. We also make these artists visible so that they can develop professionally ”, he stressed.

For her part, Luz Lorca thanked the opportunity to be a jury of the contest. “It was a space for creation and knowledge, lifting our spirits during the pandemic. I congratulate each participant. There is a great emerging talent, both in the region and throughout the country ”, she concluded.
