This week, the network of theaters associated with OLA invite you to enjoy different shows (virtual and face-to-face) such as chamber concerts, operas, ballets and contemporary dance choreographies.

Features such as “Concert 2: A new spirit” of the Municipal de Santiago stand out, which will present works by Strauss and Beethoven to invite reflection and hope; the presentation of Kombilesa Mí at the Teatro Colón in Bogotá, a group that fuses the folkloric and Afro-American roots of Colombia with popular music; and the world premiere from the Teatro Real in Madrid of “Tránsito”, the debut of the Zaragoza composer Jesús Torres.

ARGENTINA

Teatro del Bicentenario San Juan

 

On Wednesday 26, at 9 pm, the Tulum Quartet, a San Juan group that will offer a chamber music concert with works by Félix Mendelssohn and Bedrich Smétana will perform.

The members are part of the Symphonic Orchestra of the National University of San Juan and the teaching staff of the Department of Music of the same house of studies. Tickets can be collected at the theater box office or on the site tuentrada.com.

 

 

BRAZIL

Theatro Municipal de São Paulo

 

Theatro Municipal de São Paulo continues with online programming through its YouTube channel.

On Tuesday 25, at 6 pm, the concert for piano and female choir “Carrega-me with you no Amanhã” by the young composer Juliana Ripke will be broadcast. The work is based on texts by the Brazilian poet Hilda Hilst, one of the most distinguished Portuguese literary voices of the 20th century. Maíra Ferreira will be in charge of directing the Choir Paulistano and the pianist Rosanna Civile.

On Thursday 27, at 6 pm, the Experimental Repertoire Orchestra will exhibit a performance of the “Choir of the anvils (Vedi! Le fosche)” from the opera “The troubadour”, by Giuseppe Verdi. The orchestra will be conducted by maestro Jamil Maluf, while the principal conductor Mário Zaccaro will be in charge of directing the Municipal Lyric Choir.

On Sunday 30, at 6 pm, the Municipal Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Roberto Minczuk, will present the aria “Der Hölle Rache”, from the opera “The Magic Flute” by W.A. Mozart. The soprano Laura Pisani will be in charge of interpreting the classic aria of the queen of the night.

 

 

CHILI

Municipal de Santiago

 

From Monday 24 to Sunday 30, at 8 pm, the theater continues with the transmission of Concert 2 “A new spirit” through the Municipal Delivery platform.

The program opens with the exciting and monumental piece “Metamorphosis”, by Austrian composer Richard Strauss. Originally released in 1946, the composition stands as a heartfelt reflection on the catastrophic effects of World War II. The concert continues with the Symphony No. 3 “Eroica”, by Ludwig Van Beethoven. The work, presented for the first time in Vienna in 1805, is considered the “first great romantic symphony.” More than two centuries later, his hopeful aura and heroic spirit remains resonating.

On Sunday 30, at 8 p.m., it will be the turn of the one-time broadcast of “Ocultos” (2019), a documentary by the audiovisual producer and ex-dancer of the Municipal Theater, Gabriel Bucher. The film explores the stories of the behind-the-scenes teams that make dance performances, operas and grand theater concerts possible.

 

 

Teatro del Lago, Frutillar

 

On Saturday 29, at 7 pm, the Teatro del Lago joins the concerts via streaming with the transmission of “Folklore Roots in Classical Music.” The Ensemble Teatro del Lago will present a repertoire that exhibits the origins of the so-called “musical nationalisms”, a movement that emerged in the early nineteenth century within the framework of the formation of the new European “national states”.

The program includes works by Emil Robert-Hansen, Bohuslav Martinu and Antonin Dvorák, prominent composers who were part of this trend. However, the instance will serve to premiere a work specially commissioned for this occasion from the Chilean composer Patricio Wang.

 

 

COLOMBIA

Teatro Colón de Bogotá

 

On Friday 28, at 7:30 p.m., the Colón Theater will host an atypical presentation. In the framework of the 170th anniversary of the liberation of the slaves in Colombia, the emblematic Bogota stage will host the Palenco folk rap group Kombilesa Mí.

The group celebrates ten years of trajectory, in which they have fused elements of the traditional music of San Basilio de Palenque – the first free Afro-American people of colonial America – and hip hop, with typical rhythms such as the sextet, mapalé, bullerengue, la chalupa and chalusonga.

 

 

Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo in Bogotá

 

On Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27, at 8 pm, the Afro dance show “Detrás del sur: dances for Manuel”, by Colombian choreographer Rafael Palacios, will be presented. The work, considered as an assemblage between dance and dramaturgy, is inspired by the epic “Chango, the Great Whore”, by the teacher Manuel Zapata Olivella.

On Friday 28 it will be the turn of avant-garde music. The Colombian Circle of Contemporary Music presents the Colombian cellist Diego García Castro, who will take a tour of the music of Latin American composers of the last 50 years.

 

 

SPAIN

Teatro Real Madrid

 

On Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th, at 7:00 pm, the recently awarded “Best Opera House in the World” by the International Opera Awards 2021 will present the world premiere of “Tránsito”, the first opera by Jesús Torres from Zaragoza.

The play, commissioned by the Teatro Real de Madrid in co-production with the Teatro Español, is based on a play by the same name by the Mexican-Spanish experimental playwright Max Aub. The drama tells a heartbreaking story of exile, in a painful universe, but one that emphasizes the value of human dignity.

Teatro del Canal de la Comunidad de Madrid

From Wednesday 26 to Sunday 30, the theaters of the channel will be the scene of the last week of the 36th Festival Madrid en Danza. During these days the works “Dosis de Paraíso”, by the Israeli choreographer and director Sharon Fridman, and “The Tree (Fragments of poetics on fire)”, by the American dancer and choreographer Carolyn Carson will be presented.

 

 

Auditorio de Tenerife – Ópera de Tenerife

 

On Friday 28, at 7:30 p.m., the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra will hold a concert under the direction of Víctor Pablo Pérez. The repertoire includes the works “Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor, Op. 11” by Frederic Chopin and the “Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 43” by Jean Sibelius. The pianist Rafael Blechacz will participate as a soloist.

 

 

Gran Teatro del Liceu Barcelona

 

From Wednesday the 26th to Sunday the 30th, at 7:00 p.m., the presentations of the classic ballet “Swan Lake” by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky will take place.

This version of the “romantic and timeless” work by the Russian composer stands out for its choreography by John Cranko, which is presented for the first time in Spain. Music, fantasy, love and sacrifice come together in a wonderful story that today is considered a “paradigm” of world ballet.

 

 

MÉXICO

Ópera de Bellas Artes

 

Throughout this week, at 6 pm, the recording of the “Madrigalists Choir” will be broadcast, which, since 2020, has been extending the celebration of Beethoven’s 250th anniversary.

Continuing with Beethoven, on Sunday 30, at 5 pm, the Opera de Bellas Artes will present a transmission of the opera “Fidelio”. The singers Mónica Chávez, Francisco Araiza, Rubén Amoretti and Carsten Wittmoser will embody the characters of the only opera that composed the genius of the transition from the classical to the romantic musical period. The Croatian Niksa Bareza conducts the Orchestra and Choir of the Fine Arts Theater, while the original stage direction is in charge of the Mexican Mauricio García Lozano.

 

 

Teatro del Bicentenario Roberto Plasencia Saldaña

 

On Friday 28, at 8:00 p.m., and Saturday 29, at 7:00 p.m., the recital of chamber music Oda a Napoleón, by Arnold Schoenberg, with the Aurora Quartet, will be exhibited, made up of Vera Koulkova, Madalina Nicolescu, Sona Poshotyan and Camelia Goila; the baritone Genaro Sulvarán and as guest violin, Ana Litvinenkova.

The program fuses music from the classical period with the Piano Quartet in E flat major, Op. 16 and Piano Quartet Op. 36 by Ludwig van Beethoven, with modernism music from the “Second Vienna School” with the Ode to Napoleon Bonaparte , Op. 41 for narrator, string quartet and piano by Arnold Schoenberg.
