Teatro Real of Madrid will broadcast free Der fliegende Holländer and Aida to Latin America
Teatro Real in coordination with Ópera Latinamérica, will offer the member countries of that association the opportunity to watch for free, between 17 and 21 April, Aida, by Giuseppe Verdi, The Flying Dutchman, by Richard Wagner, and the documentary The Heart of Teatro Real.
In order to unite music lovers in Spain and Latin America through opera in these difficult days of confinement on both sides of the Atlantic, Teatro Real, in coordination with OLA will offer free access to three titles of its video platform MyOperaPlayer Latin American countries the members of this association.
Spectators from Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay will be able to enjoy for free two spectacular productions of the Teatro Real that represent the most important opera composers of the 19th century: Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner.

Users in Argentina, whose Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires and Teatro del Bicentenario de San Juan are part of MyOperaPlayer, have free access to the platform’s complete catalog during the period of confinement in Spain.

ABOUT THE PRODUCTIONS
AIDA
Aida, with the musical direction of Nicola Luisotti – a great specialist in the Verdian repertoire – and staging, scenery and figures of the Argentine director Hugo de Ana, brought together important Verdian voices on the stage of the Teatro Real in March 2018 such as the sopranos Liudmyla Monastyrska (Aida) and Violeta Urmana (Amneris), the tenor Gregory Kunde (Radames) and baritone Gabriele Viviani (Amonasro), who have performed alongside the Titular Choir and Orchestra of Teatro Real and a significant number of actors in a colossal production in which more than 200 artists have participated. It is a production of Teatro Real in co-production with the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Municipal Santiago de Chile.

DER FLIEGENDE HOLLÄNDER
Der fliegende Holländer, with musical direction by Pablo Heras-Casado and a monumental and disturbing production conceived by Àlex Ollé (La Fura dels Baus), with scenery by Alfons Flores, achieved a resounding success at the Teatro Real in 2017, with a cast led by the bass baritone Samuel Youn (The Dutchman), the soprano Ingela Brimberg (Senta), the bass Kwangchul Youn (Daland) and the tenor Nikolai Schukoff, who have performed together with the Royal Theater Choir and Orchestra, seconded, as in Aida, by a large number of actors. A production of the Opéra de Lyon in co-production with the Bergen Nasjonale Opera, Opera Australia and the Opéra de Lille.

THE HEART OF TEATRO REAL | Trailer
Watch El corazón del Teatro Real
Over 75 minutes, viewers will be able to learn about the daily life of the theater, the steps to set up an operatic production, the work of technicians and artists in workshops and rehearsal rooms, and a multitude of anecdotes and stories that reveal the intensity and the emotions that hide behind the curtain.
Much of the documentary is devoted to rehearsals and works prior to the premiere of The Flying Dutchman, so it will be very interesting to see the full opera later, also offered for free.
Workers from the Teatro Real from different professions and artists such as Teresa Berganza, Plácido Domingo, Juan Diego Flórez, María Bayo, Núria Espert, Mario Gas, Javier Camarena or Rufus Wainwright, participate in the documentary, with the special participation of Mario Vargas Llosa.
Directed by José Luis López-Linares and produced by Telecinco Cinema, with the collaboration of the Teatro Real, López-Li Films and Zampa Producciones, and distributed by Digital Version, the documentary was filmed in 2017 within the framework of the projects developed to commemorate the double anniversary of the Teatro Real: the bicentennial of its foundation and the 20th anniversary of its reopening.
