John Wilson assumes direction of Teatro del Lago International Academy Orchestra
The leading British director will arrive in Chile for the first time in Holy Week, assuming the direction that Vladimir Ashkenazy originally had, who recently announced his retirement after seven decades of outstanding career. Registration for the academy remains open until February 14.
vibrant baton John Wilson’s will arrive in Chile for the first time next April, when the leading British director is responsible for conducting Teatro del Lago International Academy Orchestra, one of the Foundation’s most emblematic educational initiatives. Works such as Symphony No. 4 by Piotr Ilich Tchaikovsky and the Piano Concerto No. 3 by Sergei Rachmaninov will be presented at Espacio Tronador in the interpretation of young Chilean and Latin American musicians, selected by call.
John Wilson has had an ascending career conducting great professional and youth orchestras, including the London Symphony, London Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony, Oslo and Goteborg Philharmonic, the Deutsches Symphonieorchester Berlin, Sydney Symphony and the Budapest Festival Orchestra, among others. In 1994 he formed the John Wilson Orchestra, dedicated since then to interpret music from the golden age of Hollywood and Broadway and with which he has an extensive discography.
The British will replace the prestigious Russian teacher in the Orchestra of the International Academy Theater of the Lake Vladimir Ashkenazy, who a week ago announced his immediate retirement from the world stages, after seven decades of outstanding musical career as a pianist and director. John Wilson will work for six days in Frutillar together with an outstanding team of international musicians in preparation for the participants for the final concert, which will take place on Saturday, April 11 at 7:00 p.m. in Espacio Tronador. The team of coaches will consist of the English oboist, Nigel Shore; the professor of direction of the Academy of Arts of the Symphony Orchestra of São Paulo, Wagner Polistchuk; the award-winning German cellist, Martin Osten and the German violinist, Barbara Doll.
“John Wilson has a charisma and a very versatile career, which have led him to actively approach different genres and musical formats. That seal, added to the outstanding experience of the four coaches international of the Academy, will be an enormous contribution to the professional development of musicians, as has been our educational seal since the creation of this instance in 2014 ”, explains Véronique Mondini, head of Artistic Projects of Teatro del Lago.
The Teatro del Lago International Academy Orchestra is one of the Foundation’s most prominent projects and one of the few that brings together musicians and students from all of Latin America under the motto of musical education of excellence. It was created in 2014 by the then artistic director Uli Bader, together with the German teacher Helmuth Rilling and has since brought together interpreters from 18 countries, such as Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Honduras, Venezuela and Chile, among others.
The call for orchestral training 2020 is now open and musicians can apply until February 14.
